“He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends” Psalm 72:8

Today is Election Day here in Canada. Over two hundred and fifty years ago when leaders from the different provinces of our country met together to form Confederation, one of their first acts was to choose a name. Apparently, Psalm 72:8 inspired Sir Leonard Tilley: when he suggested “Dominion of Canada.” The designation of Dominion was dropped years ago, and many of the values and standards that existed when our country began have fallen by the wayside. Today our country will decide who will be the leader for the next four years.

In Daniel chapter four we read the story of King Nebuchadnezzar. He was at the height of his power. Wars were over, and he felt secure because of his wisdom and power. He did not acknowledge that God had given him everything, and so God humbled him.

Daniel 4:17 “…….. to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.”

Psalm 47:7-8 states: “For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding. God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.

God is the final authority over all nations. He allows men to choose the form of government they desire, through elections and referendums. Whether they acknowledge Him or not, He is still in control. He has had a plan from the beginning and step by step it is unfolding.

Whatever the outcome of the election in our country today, we can trust that the Lord is in control. He still rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomsoever He will. We may not agree with all the decisions, but we know that is all part of His plan. We trust Him, pray for our leaders, and stand faithful to the Lord, as we look for His return.

Luke 31:28 “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

II Peter 1:10 “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.”

Lord Jesus, we trust your plan for our nation and our world. May your will be done today.

Good morning. Yes, it will be interesting to see what happens today. I live in Montreal, Quebec. I moved here seventeen years ago from Ontario when my daughter and her husband (the Grants) were appointed Metro Missionaries to Quebec.
Thanks for following these devotions. God bless you.
      Anne
