“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” John 15:16

Chosen – one who is the object of choice; who is given preference.

In the days before cell phones, tablets, and video games, children enjoyed playing outside. At recess in the schoolyard or at neighbourhood parks, groups would gather to play games. Baseball was a popular one. Two people would take turns picking the ones they wanted on their team. They would choose the best players first and then the rest just waited, hoping they would be next. How terrible it felt to be the last one chosen, or not have your name called.

We serve a God who is fair and just and is no respecter of persons. Jesus paid the price on Calvary that all who would believe in Him would receive salvation. In His foreknowledge, He knew each of us and how we would respond to the gospel. Look at the Scriptures that tell us He loved us and knew us before time began.

Psalm 139:16 “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.”

Ephesians 1:4-5 “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

It is God’s will that all men would experience salvation. But all will not accept His call. We each choose to accept Him as our Saviour or reject what He has to offer.

I Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”

How blessed we are to be part of that chosen generation. We have a responsibility to live our lives so that others will see Christ in us and desire to know Him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we are so privileged to be part of your chosen people. We love you and appreciate you, and desire to live so that others will know you.
