“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” I Corinthians 6:20
Precious: of great value; not to be wasted or treated carelessly. Oxford Dictionary
Most of us have something in our possession that we consider precious. It may be something that belonged to our parents or someone else in our family. It may be something that we worked for long hours to be able to purchase. It might not seem to be of any value to others, but we treasure it and protect and preserve it.
We also use the word precious to describe people in our lives who are dear and cherished. We value them highly and would do anything we could for them. As parents we consider our children to be very precious to us.
Why does Jesus consider His people precious?
Because He paid the supreme sacrifice to purchase us. Think of what He suffered. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He earnestly asked the Father if there was any way to change what He knew was about to happen. He endured the mock trial, the beatings, and the false accusations. He endured the agony and pain as He bore His cross on the way to Calvary. He allowed them to nail Him to the cross, and as He hung there, He prayed that they would be forgiven. In any of these instances, He could have called for angels to come and deliver Him. But instead, He gave His life to redeem humanity.
I Peter 1:18-20 “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.”
A woman who loves and serves the Lord is precious.
Proverbs 31:10 “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.”
When we fully grasp how much the Lord loves us and realize that we are precious in His sight, we desire to live every day to please Him and do His will. The woman described in Proverbs was just an ordinary woman like you and me. But in every part of her life, she was faithful, just fulfilling her daily tasks, using the abilities and talents that the Lord had given her.
Let us be faithful until the day God calls us home.
Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.”
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for giving your life to bring us salvation. You gave your all, and as your precious daughters, we want to give our best to you.
