“And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.” Daniel 12:3

Merriam-Webster describes the word lovely as “delightful for beauty, harmony, or grace.” According to Strong’s Concordance, the word is only found four times in the Bible. David used it to describe Jonathan in his lament in II Samuel 1:23. In Song of Solomon 5:16, the bride describes her beloved as being “altogether lovely.” In Ezekiel 33:32, the people just regarded the prophet’s words as a lovely song, pleasant to listen to. In the New Testament, we find the word in Philippians 4:8, advising us what we are to think about.

This verse in Daniel is referring to the return of the Lord when those who have served Him here on earth will be with Him for eternity. There is nothing quite as beautiful as a night sky filled with stars. Perhaps you have even used the expression, “What a lovely night it is!” It seems that in this verse, the Lord is saying that the wise, those who live for Him and serve Him faithfully, are as beautiful as the stars in the heavens.

Although the word, ‘lovely’ is not used, there are many scriptures that express the concept in other ways:

Psalm 45:13 “The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.”

1Peter 3:3-4  “Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”

Luke 6:45 “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”

Pro 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

I found this description of a lovely person: “Memorable and lovely people have a unique ability to make others feel special. They have a knack for noticing the good in others and making them feel valued and appreciated. They remember important details about your life, celebrate your achievements, and uplift you during tough times.”

Prayer: Jesus, search our hearts today. Cleanse us from thoughts and ideas that are not pleasing to you. We want to live so that you will look at us and say, “You are lovely.”
