“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” Revelation 22:1
The Apostle John wrote the book of Revelation, as God revealed to him the things that would happen in the end times. It is not an easy book to understand, but as things are shaping up in our world today, it is easier to believe how all the things he wrote about can come to pass. We realize that the coming of the Lord is drawing very near and it is necessary that we make our calling and election sure.
In Chapter 21, John described the New Jerusalem in all its splendour and glory. Now in this closing chapter, John is given a vision similar to that of Ezekiel. He saw the river of life as it started at the throne of God and flowed throughout the city.
Won’t it be wonderful when this life on earth is over, and the Lord returns for His people? How great it will be when we look upon the face of Jesus, the one who redeemed us from sin. How wonderful it will feel to sit down by that crystal river and know that we are there for eternity.
Here are some of the things that await us:
- Verse 2 – In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
- Verse 3 – And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
- Verse 4 – And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
- Verse 5 – And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
After seeing all these things, the Lord spoke to John:
Verse 12 & 13 “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”
Jesus is coming soon. Today we have the opportunity to partake of the living water that He provides. Jesus is the only way to salvation. If we are to spend eternity with Him, this is the time to prepare. We have no guarantee of tomorrow, today is the day of salvation.
I trust that all of you have enjoyed the articles this week about rivers. I pray that the Lord has spoken to each of us about the need to make sure we are obeying the Word of God and are ready for His return.
Prayer: Jesus, we thank you for the living water that you supply, freely to every one of us. We desire to draw closer to you and be ready, waiting, and watching for your return.
