“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.”

Matthew 4:19-20

This has always been a fascinating portion of scripture to me. I am often drawn back to it, and my imagination runs wild with possibilities. If someone approached you and said, “Leave everything you know behind and follow me,” you probably would say no, and maybe even call the police. But that’s exactly what happened to Peter and Andrew.

They didn’t know Jesus, and yet when He approached them and said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men,” they laid down what they were doing and did exactly that. I have to wonder what they felt in that moment. Was it God’s presence?  I have had powerful encounters with Jesus, and I can guarantee, if they felt what I have felt time and time again, I would have dropped everything too.

It only takes one moment in the presence of God for your life to be dramatically changed. I am a living testimony of that, the same as Peter and Andrew. Jesus stepped into my life and turned my world right side up! He showered me with grace and extended mercy to me, and I will never be the same – and you can experience a life-changing moment in God’s presence too!

  1. Thank you for your insight on this verse.
I have long wondered what there was in His voice and manner that drew them to Him.
Then I remember Who He was. The same One that drew me to Him.
    God bless.
