In our last study, we discussed how that the keystone—placed LAST at the very top of an arch—is the ultimate key to its strength. If a prayer was an arch, the keystone was the AMEN.
Our response to the manifest Plan of God should always be “not my will, but Thine be done.” We crown His perfect Will with our own keystone—our heart’s final, fervent, and sincere AMEN. It is our word of submission to God’s authority—to whatever He ordains in our lives to complete and perfect us, without rebellion. It may be that the most important element of any prayer is, indeed, that last word—the AMEN that says, “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work [in me] WILL complete it …” (Philippians 1:6 NASB)
Job’s response to the compound tragedies in his life was, “The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” (Job 1:21 KJV). In a word: AMEN.
Jesus Himself, when at last He completed the Salvation Plan that was ordained before the foundation of the earth—after He suffered ALL that a human body could suffer, He added His own keystone declaration, “It is finished.” As if to say—AMEN. In fact, (fast forward) when we reach the final conclusion of all things … He IS the keystone. Jesus IS the AMEN! (Rev. 3:14)
If God is in charge of our lives, He will fulfill His Plan for us. What He starts, He finishes. It may be that He Himself will establish, strengthen, and help us stand firm WHEN and in the same measure AS we offer our own affirmation to His Will … with our heartfelt “AMEN!” (Read that again.)
God will strengthen, help, and uphold us when we pray, “Not my will, but YOURS. Not my understanding, but YOURS. Not my strength, or wisdom, or agenda, but YOURS” … His will, understanding, strength, wisdom, and agenda become OURS—when we say “AMEN!”
“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him AMEN, unto the glory of God by us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20 KJV)
So, let this be our response to whatever the day may bring, or at the end of every day, or every life, as we lay our body—which is the Temple of the Holy Ghost—down to rest. Let the final word from our lips be … AMEN! Indeed, to whatever God ordains for the future of His Church, the corporate Body of Jesus Christ, let the CHURCH say AMEN!
- In the sunshine or the shadows—AMEN.
- In the morning, or the midnight—AMEN.
- When peace like a river attends our way, or sorrows like sea billows roll—AMEN!
Dear Lord, whatever my lot, cause me to say … AMEN! When I know GOD has truly spoken, let my heart say … let the CHURCH say … let my soul’s last word always be … AMEN! To Him be the power forever and ever. AMEN and AMEN!
