“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-l4.

I came across this poem that I had written. I may have shared it on here before, but felt the Lord wanted me to use it today.

Do not Look Back

Sometimes we are tempted to look back on the failures of yesterday.
To agonize over mistakes, we have made and the troubles that come our way.
We think about the careless words that would have been better unsaid.
It is too late now to take them back and speak kinder ones instead.

Life looks better when we take all those things to God in prayer.
Just lay the burdens at His feet and thank Him and leave them there.
He knows all about our failures, He forgives each time we fall.
He will give us strength to face today as on His Name we call.

None of us are perfect, we all stumble along life’s way.
But forgiveness is ours for the asking, as we bow our heads and pray.
Forgetting the things which are behind, press onward towards the goal.
Resting in our Saviour’s love, peace and joy will fill our soul.

During this time when we are staying in our homes and not getting out to fellowship with others, we have lots of time to think. If we are not careful, we may start rehashing things that happened in our life. The enemy of our souls would like to get us feeling depressed and discouraged. He may remind us of our failures, but that is when we need to remember that the Lord has cleansed us and forgiven us. Just start praising the Lord for all the good things He has done for you in the past and remember the future He has for you: eternity in His presence.

Prayer: Jesus we cannot change the past, but you have changed our future. We thank you for your hand upon us as we press onward towards the prize that you have prepared for us.

Thank you for today’s poem. Very encouraging as I have been moaning my failures recently.
