“And when he (Jesus) was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit… But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him.” Mark 5:2, 6.
The man introduced in Mark 5:1-20 is possessed by thousands of devils. Many people would probably think, oh no, that poor man, there is no hope for him. Many of us wouldn’t even try to converse with someone so bound by Satan.
However, these scriptures tell us that the man didn’t wait for Jesus to come to him. As soon as he saw Jesus in a boat, drawing near the coastline, he broke free from the chains that bound him to the tombs and ran to meet Jesus as soon as he stepped off the boat.
He ran. He was desperate. He was tired of being bound, depressed, and under Satan’s captivity. He knew Jesus was more powerful than the possession that took hold of his life.
I don’t know how this man became so possessed by Satan. I don’t know the road he took, and the decisions he made to get to the place he did. As a little boy, I am sure he didn’t dream about being bound by evil and living on a burial ground when he grew up. I’m positive he didn’t dream about being an outcast from his family, friends, and society. But, here he is, all of those things. His life did not end up the way he planned.
A lot of people I invite to have a relationship with Jesus say, “I’m not good enough yet. I can’t come to church yet… not until I get my sin under control.” The truth is that we can’t overcome our sins without Jesus. We need Him to bring deliverance, peace, and pure joy into our lives. The Decapolis man didn’t wait until he got cleaned up; he knew he needed Jesus to change his life.
My former Pastor, Bro. Vito LoCascio and his wife would say, “If you want to be saved, you cannot be lost.” This statement will forever impact me. There is a table spread with the bounty of God’s goodness and mercy, and it is available for every person in the world. Just as you cannot keep a starving man away from a table full of food, you cannot keep a hungry soul away from feasting on the bread of life and drinking from the spring of living water.
If you want to be saved, you cannot be lost.
If you have a need in your life, run to Jesus. If you have an impossible situation that you can’t overcome in your flesh, meet with Jesus. Don’t wait another minute, but take some time right now to go to Jesus just as you are, where you are. He will meet with you and He can change your life around.
