“And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,” Deuteronomy 10:12
In Deuteronomy, Moses had been re-telling the story of the Israelite’s deliverance from Egypt and their travels up to this point. They had been so close to going into the Promised Land, but due to their fear, they had been forced to dwell in the wilderness for forty years. The ones who had refused to obey were gone, and it was finally time for the younger generation to obtain the promise.
In this verse, Moses shows them what God requires of them: to fear the Lord, walk in His ways, love Him, and serve Him with all their heart and soul. If they will do these things, then the Lord will be with them and bless them.
Micah repeats these instructions to the people of his day. Micah 6:8 “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
God’s requirements today haven’t changed. If we will fear the Lord, walk in the ways that He has shown us from His Word, love Him, and serve Him with all our heart and soul, He will bless us and meet our every need.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we desire to walk in your ways, and to love you with all our heart and soul. You have blessed us so abundantly, help us to bless others.
