“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.” Proverbs 16:3-4 ESV I am so thankful for the strength and assurance that I find in God’s word. Life can often be confusing, but I have learned through the years that only God remains constant and steadfast. His majesty never has been and never will be diminished in any way, and He is always near to us. According to Dictionary.com, one definition of “commit” is “to give in trust or charge, especially…
“Anyone who loves to quarrel loves sin; anyone who trusts in high walls invites disaster.” Proverbs 17:19 Proverbs is such an interesting book of the bible to me. It’s this smorgasbord of universal wisdom all compiled into one book. This scripture goes from quarreling to trusting in high walls all in one scripture! I feel like Solomon could never turn his brain off, and his hand couldn’t write as fast as his mind was thinking. The second half of this scripture stood out to me, “anyone who trusts in high walls invites disaster” High walls in the modern day could mean just about anything – finances, relationships, emotions, people.. the list is endless. The struggle is different for everyone though, and what I may struggle with, you may sail right past – not even giving it a second thought. This doesn’t make any struggle, any less of a struggle though. If we place our trust in anyone or anything besides God, we are reminded that we are inviting disaster. In bible days, I’m sure this meant war and death. And while in 2018 the consequences may not be the same, our choices may lead to unnecessary spiritual warfare or spiritual…
“Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.” John 13:3-5 NLT Jesus was and still is the ultimate example of a true servant. As I have read through the gospels, I feel that God has been reminding me of this foundational truth – that to be an authentic follower of Christ, you must have the heart of a servant. Jesus knew that Judas had already been prompted to betray him, and that this would be his last chance to be with all of his disciples before things dramatically changed. Jesus got up from the table, took off his robe, and wrapped a towel around his waist. This towel was essentially an apron that servants typically wore, and to us, it does not seem fitting for a King to wear. Yet Jesus humbled himself and washed the feet of his disciples, even Judas. The very one who had…
The story is old but ever new by the vibrant colors of it: blood red with courage, true blue with faithfulness, and white hot with passion. It begins in Nazareth where the believers were considered sub-par, a bit too influenced by the many caravans who passed there. Those of Jerusalem’s higher order thought the trampled dung of the streets was only a reflection of the condition of the people’s hearts living there. Nazareth may seem an unlikely place for the story to start. However, those of us who know the end of the story are not surprised. Jesus never was…
“When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive.” Psalms 69:32 ESV Have you ever felt tired? I have two daughters, both of whom were terrible sleepers since birth. They were most needy during the night, waking up anywhere from 5-6 times for a bottle, diaper change, or just some snuggles. At first, you are kind of okay with the lack of sleep because you’re surviving on the new baby adrenaline rush, but eventually, it catches up to you, and you crash, hard. Something similar can happen in our spiritual lives as well. If we aren’t regularly going to the well to be filled, we will run dry. Exhaustion will set in, and the journey will no longer look exciting and promising, but rather impossible and hopeless. We must always be in pursuit of God, and the things of God. Seeking requires patience and diligence, but our hearts will be revived in the process. The Bible is filled with stories of ordinary people who went to great lengths to find what had been lost. At that moment, nothing else mattered but the retrieval of the missing item. In our daily lives, nothing…
“You’ve seen a lot, but looked at nothing. You’ve heard everything, but listened to nothing.” Isaiah 42:20 MSG My oldest daughter is at that age where she talks a lot, and I mean a lot. She has slowly morphed from a shy, timid little girl into a social, chatty butterfly. Don’t get me wrong, I love having lengthy discussions about everything possible with her, but I do catch my thoughts drifting off sometimes mid-conversation. We as humans have become quite adept at hearing but not listening, and seeing but not genuinely soaking in what we are witnessing. I believe the same applies spiritually. We attend service after service, hearing the word preached and seeing God move, but a lot of the time we leave the same way we entered – stirred, but unchanged. I love to worship and rejoice as I feel God’s presence, but I believe God is calling us, especially now, to go deeper. Do you feel the call to take a few daunting steps into the Supernatural? We live in odd, uncertain times, so now more than ever being stirred is not enough. There are people in our communities who are searching for something real and life-changing,…
