“Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed” (Proverbs 11:24-25, NLT). Many times, when we think of generosity, we think of money. Does that mean we cannot be generous if we have no money to share? Absolutely not! A generous spirit is possible, even if we have zero money in our pocket. What is a generous spirit? It has been defined as “doing or giving more than is usual or expected” (collinsdictionary.com). Although an accurate definition, this description does not go far enough. Someone with…
“The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.” (Proverbs 4:7, ESV) When I’m not too sleepy to completely open my eyes, I read the small motivational messages printed on the little yellow packets of sweetener I use in my morning tea. One day I…
Romans 2:7 “He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers.” I have two young children, and as a parent, I carry a huge responsibility and burden for raising them in this day and age. I’m…

“And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.”…
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? (Matthew 6:30, KJV) Jesus said not to be anxious about anything food, body, or clothing related. Have you noticed though, how society screams at us daily: “Be anxious about all things food, body, and clothing related! You need prettier food! A prettier body! Prettier clothes! You’re incomplete, damaged, and a bundle of imperfections!” And they scramble to sell us goals and products and styles that will…
In Jordan, where my husband and I have lived, the Muslim call to prayer sounds five times daily. Mosques all over the country synchronize their calls to prayer. Varying tones of the Arabic-speaking muezzins echo against the stone and concrete walls of the buildings. A friend of mine who visited Jordan on a layover disliked the sound of the Muslim call to prayer. She described it as eerie. Although my husband and I do not necessarily like hearing the Muslim calls to prayer, we grew accustomed to them. They are part and parcel of living in a Muslim country. Jordan…
Proverbs 8:29 “I was there when he set the limits of the seas, so they would not spread beyond their boundaries. And when he marked off the earth’s foundations,” Humans struggle with being told what to do. Everyone wants to be the Captain, to be in charge, to take orders from no one. We don’t like having boundaries, and we love to exercise our “right” to our own free will. God has placed boundaries for a reason though, a very important, life saving reason. Have you ever driven through a highway, that was over-looking the ocean? You can smell the…
