“Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.” Psalm 68:19 Count your blessings, name then one by one; Count your blessings, see what God hath done; Count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your many blessings, see what God hath done. A friend of mine recently shared with me some of the many ways she had been blessed in the past year. It had been a difficult year for her because of the loss of her husband, but she had made up her mind to find ways she could bless…
“For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee. He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.” Psalm 137:13-14 When our family gets together for Christmas, one tradition that we have had for years is doing…
“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” Revelation 21:7 This week between Christmas and New Year’s Day is a suitable time to finish some projects that we started during the year. Every year I read the Bible from…

“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:26 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). In the corporate world the profit and loss statement is reviewed often to make sure the company is on target and that adjustments are made properly. I only wish the same amount of diligence was given to our souls. According to this Bible verse, the soul is the most valuable asset we have. When was the last time you looked at your own spiritual profit and loss statement from God’s perspective?
Prayer: Dear Lord, I want to make sure that I am laying up treasures in Heaven. The whole world is of no value if I lose my soul.

“And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.” Luke 15:20 “Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:” I Peter 3:8 Has there ever been a time in your life when your children have caused you worry? Maybe they were not home when they were supposed to be, and anxiety caused you to imagine all the terrible things that might have happened to…
“The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.” Proverbs 31:11 Let’s look at this verse in the New Living Translation: “Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.” I am a widow, and my husband has been gone for almost twenty years. We had a good marriage and he was a wonderful man. Did he have faults? Of course, he did, but then, so did I. I am so thankful for how much…
“This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all.” 1 Timothy 1:15 As I was reading through this chapter I realized that as Paul preached the gospel, it was infused with his testimony. Gospel and testimony seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly. Paul is giving instruction to the people on how to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord, but he is also telling them how God had so mercifully saved him. Paul had done some pretty terrible…
