“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” II Peter 1:3 It is interesting to know that before God created man, He first created everything that man would need to survive. As we read the first chapter of Genesis, we see how God had a plan, and thoroughly He brought it to completion. Light was separated from darkness. Dry land and waters were divided. Grass, flowers, and trees appeared on the earth. The sun, moon, and stars appeared…

“And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray.” (Mark 6:46, ESV) I was visiting an older friend recently when she explained that she didn’t know what to do. She could no longer get on her knees to pray, and this really bothered her. I reassured her as best I could and offered her encouragement on ways to adapt to praying in a chair. I am sure she knows as well as I do that God hears our prayers whether we are kneeling, sitting, standing, or walking. But this had been her way…

And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, … And there was yet a battle in Gath… And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimeah the brother of David slew him. 2 Samuel 21:19-21 When I was reading 2 Samuel 21:15-21 last week the words, “slew the brother of Goliath,” spoke to my spirit directly. These scriptures explain that Goliath had four descendants who attempted to kill David—one of these giant’s was Goliath’s big, bad brother. You have fought and…

1 Samuel 17:34-35 NLT “But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock,  I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death.” I am amazed at how fearless David was. I can visualize David as he spent a normal day tending sheep and suddenly realized that a lion was heading his way with only one intention in…

Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking scent, Ecclesiastes 10:1. I thought about how a fly in the ointment is a metaphor for unresolved issues in the life of a believer. A tiny, annoying fly can destroy precious and valuable ointment, just as a worried heart can create havoc on your health or secret sin can fester. Imagine the apothecary represents our relationship with the Lord. The ointment is our life’s fragrance of worship and love. And the fly is the thing we wrestle with consistently. The thing that is hindering you from moving…
