“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” Titus 2:13 Praying and asking the Lord what He wanted me to share in my writing today, the word “Hope” kept coming back to me. Wikipedia describes it as follows: Hope is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large. As a verb, its definitions include: “expect with confidence” and “to cherish a desire with anticipation.” What are we hoping for today? …
“The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.” Psalm 138:8 I have been thinking of an old song I haven’t heard for a lot of years, written by Vesta Goodman. I am quoting the second…

And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and…

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11 NKJV) Have you ever noticed that God lets us experience desires that are contrary to His will? Sometimes our seemingly harmless wishes turn out to be contrary to God’s will, and it never goes well when we try to push His to match our wants. Many two-year-olds face this scenario almost daily. They are eager to explore the world, and experience good things. They want cookies, and doughnuts, and candy. They don’t understand basic nutrition or safety. They see no…
“Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body” Proverbs 16:24 Have you ever had a conversation with someone and felt dirty afterwards? I have. It doesn’t always even have to be about anything inappropriate, just maybe a little too much time spent talking about another person. There are people who are known gossips. When I read this scripture I wonder if I am known for being one of those people, or as someone who speaks kind words and encouragement. Do I speak peace into a conversation, or do I poison it with judgemental…
Did you hear about the Great North American Eclipse in August 2017? I know it sounds simple – the moon crossed in front of the sun – but it was a very exciting day. I avoided the tourists by staying home to experience 99% of a total eclipse. I had read that it would be a remarkable experience, but I was unprepared for how impossible it would be to capture the eclipse in words or pictures. The sun darkened slowly throughout the morning, and our automatic porch lights flicked on. The air became chilly. Birds and bugs grew quiet, confused…
“Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 Mother’s Day. This could either be a day of celebration for you, or a day of mourning. A day to receive flowers, and sweet gifts from your husband and children, or a day when you realize what you have lost.. or what you have never had in the first place. Perhaps your heart is aching today for the children you never got to hold in your arms, only…
