“But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” (Matthew 13:23, NIV)

We all know what it takes to grow a healthy plant. Plants need good soil, plenty of water and sunshine. The art of growing a healthy plant should be common sense and yet some are naturally better at it than others. One day I would love to be a gardener. Till that day, I will continue to buy already grown plants and watch as I single-handedly kill them.

The parable of the sower teaches us that in order to produce a good crop, we need to grow it in healthy soil. If you plant a seed in healthy soil, it will be able to create a good root system and will inevitably grow to be a strong, healthy plant. If a plant does not have a healthy root system, it cannot possibly yield a great harvest.

Just like a plant, we need to have a healthy root system. A foundation built on the Word and prayer will develop our roots and cause us to grow and have a deeper relationship with Christ. If our root system is strong, we will be able to do so much more for His kingdom.

Prayer: Lord, help us to develop our root system today. Use us to yield a great harvest! In Jesus name, amen.
