“Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?”

Have you ever heard of the “microwave generation?” I’m sad to admit it, but that is the culture that many of us are apart of. We are a generation that loves convenience, quick results and direct deposit. I have a friend who has self-diagnosed herself with “instantitus” which of course, is not a real ailment, she just likes to have things done right then and there. I’m the same way, and I’m sure many of you who are reading can relate to this feeling as well.
Convenience and the gospel don’t exactly work well together though. One gives instant gratification, usually without lasting results, and the other demands the ultimate sacrifice – a surrendered life.
If we are strong and able in the faith, we are called to help those who are struggling, without judgement, opinion or condescension. We have been given this strength to help us serve, not to elevate our own personal status. What a high calling and mission we have been given. To step beyond comfort and our own personal convenience, to get down in the mud with those who are struggling to stand.
This should not puff up our own egos, but rather keep us humble as we fulfill and live out the gospel. My prayer today is that we will always see with eyes of compassion, and to have hearts that are empathic and kind.
Prayer: God, please help me to see others as You see them. Fill my heart today with Your kindness and let my life be a living testimony of the gospel. Break my heart for what breaks Yours, and lead me to those who are searching for more.
