Who is God? Where is He? Is He some austere, unapproachable deity that cannot be touched? What is He like? What does He do? We have all asked questions about God, at one time or another. We need Him but are in awe of Him too.
God is not playing “hide and seek” with us. Neither is he like the little ponies on a merry-go-round, one chasing the other but never catching him. He is not watching us, waiting for us to mess up so He can pronounce judgment.
The Scriptures tell us that “God is love” (1 John 4:16). Where true love exists there is safety, trust, and peace. Isn’t that what we are all looking for?

Prayer: Dear Lord, You said that you are “not far” from any of us (Acts 17:27). Thank You for that reassurance. The fact that You are approachable means everything.

“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you” (John 15:12).
“Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another” (I John 4:11).
“Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law” Romans 13:10).
The love of God is perfect, self-sacrificing, and pure. God loves the loveable as well as the unlovable. He loves us in spite of our imperfections. If we are to love each other as God loves us, we must also love without reservation, even when that individual is difficult to love. Love like God’s love is not mean-spirited and does not try to cause harm. It seeks only the good of the other person.
Prayer: Lord, help me today to respond with love toward all those I meet. Let my love be sacrificial, seeking the good of the other above my own personal desires. The more I give love to others, the more I increase my love for You. Thank You for letting me feel Your love in my life.

“For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel, The God of the whole earth shall he be called” (Isaiah 54:5 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). We will never be truly forsaken, alone or widowed because God is the husband of our soul. Too often we are deeply disappointed with our relationships with others because we expect more from them than they are capable of providing. It’s important to remember that our earthly relationships are but a shadow of what it means to have the affection, protection, companionship, friendship, partnership and leadership of our Maker.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Everything I need from relationships with those closest to me, I find in You. You are the first and real love of my life!
