While flying a plane in thick fog, the pilot cannot be sure of his direction unless he gives full attention to his instruments. In a thunderstorm, the turbulence can toss the plane about; the darkness within the clouds may cause disorientation. Sometimes the pilot will feel as though he is going up or down or turning around. But he cannot depend on his feelings. Only the gyros can be trusted, so the pilot must hang on to the controls in the turbulence, and discipline his mind to concentrate on the instruments-not on the storm.

There is a parallel spiritual truth for the believer in troubled times.

Undisciplined feelings will cause disorientation-even a crash- unless we keep ourselves stabilized by the facts of God’s Word.

“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free’” (John 8:31-32 in the New International Version of the Holy Bible).

Are you searching for the truth? Do you want real answers to your life issues? With so many religions proclaiming they have the truth, do you wonder where to turn? We must start our search for truth with the only reliable source –the Holy Bible. Jesus Christ Himself proclaimed that obedience to His teachings is the key to finding the truth and freedom from life’s distresses.

Prayer: Lord, it is my hearts desire for You to consider me to be one of your real disciples. I understand that a disciple is one who follows You, obeys Your instructions and stands firm on Your teachings. It is then, and only then, that I will recognize the truth. The Bible tells me that You are “the way, the truth, and the life.” When I become acquainted with You, Truth steps into my life and I am genuinely free.

“They went to him and said, Teacher, we know that you are honest. You treat everyone with the same respect, no matter who they are. And you teach the truth about what God wants people to do…” (Mark 12:14 in the Contemporary English Version of the Holy Bible). It is said that integrity is when you spend as much time on the backyard as you do on the front. Jesus Christ taught by example that we too must live each day speaking the truth and acting with integrity.

Prayer: Lord, Your words are true and You keep all of Your promises. I can rely on Your Word – on Your integrity. Help me to fulfill my obligations and responsibilities with integrity. And, may I always speak the truth in love. Amen.
