Psalm 112:9 “He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.”

This week we have looked at the many blessings that the Lord has bestowed on those who fear Him and keep His commandments. Today we are looking at those who have been blessed with the gift of compassion and generosity.

There are a lot of needs in our world today. We cannot give to every appeal that we hear about. God intends us to be good stewards of what He has given us. Our first obligation is to our local church with Tithes, offerings, and Missions giving. After I have budgeted for my monthly bills and needs, I ask the Lord to direct me as to how I use the rest. Over the years, I have learned to listen to His still small voice, as He shows me where I can be a blessing. He never lets me down.

Consider the following scriptures:

II Corinthians 9:6-7 “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

Romans 12:13 “Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.”

Hebrews 13:1-2 “Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”

Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

It is not how much we give, but how much we have left that counts. Remember the story Jesus told of the widow’s mite. He blesses us so we can bless others.

Perhaps you are struggling financially today. Why not put God to the test? Start giving regularly to the Lord. Then ask the Lord to lead you to someone in need. You will find He will pour out His blessings on you in a way you never dreamed.

Prayer: Jesus, you are faithful in providing our needs and we desire to share what you have given us with others. Help us to be your hands and feet to bless others.
