“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26

For three and a half years the disciples had listened to Jesus as He taught about His kingdom. Now as the time was coming when He would leave them, He promised that when the Comforter came, He would stir up their memories. For some of them, it would mean He would direct them to record their experiences in what we know now as the Gospels. No doubt they had not written down anything while Jesus was with them, but by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit they would be able to share Jesus’ life for all the world to know.

II Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

Just as the Holy Spirit illuminated the minds of the disciples, so He works today in our hearts, bringing to remembrance the truths we have read in the Scriptures, and the preaching and teaching we have received. That is why it is so important to read and study the Word of God. He cannot bring to our remembrance what we have never learned.

There are times we are going through a trial or faced with an important decision. As we seek the Lord, He brings a scripture into our mind that is exactly what we need at that moment. Often, we will open our Bibles and while reading through a passage, a scripture will stand out to us.  Maybe we have read it many times before but now it becomes plain to us and gives us the answer we need.

Have you ever gone to a church service, when you were seeking the Lord for guidance about a problem or difficulty and the pastor preached a sermon that just gave you the answer you needed? Did someone tell the pastor what was happening in your life? No. The Lord knew exactly what you needed and anointed the Pastor to preach that message.

Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”

Prayer: Thank you, Holy Spirit, for your presence in our lives, leading us and guiding us into all truth. Help us to ever be open to your direction.
