“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:38

At our Seniors’ Fellowship a few months ago, the subject of using cash arose. Most people said they did not carry cash. They rely on credit cards or online banking to pay bills and buy supplies. I asked them what they did when the Holy Spirit prompted them to give money to someone. One replied that they would go to the ATM and take out some cash. But that is not always possible.

Each month when my pensions are deposited in my account, my first step is to pay my tithes and offerings to the church. I pay my rent and other monthly bills. Then I ask the Lord, “To whom can I be a blessing this month?” Then I go to the Bank and withdraw some cash. I am thankful for the way God has blessed me abundantly with everything that I need. And I want to share what I can with others. It seems the more I give in the Name of the Lord, the more He gives back to me.

Having cash in my purse enables me to help if I see someone in need. We cannot give to all who are asking for help, but we can trust the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom. It means being able to bless a young person, just because I remember someone doing that for me. When a missionary visits our church, it is nice to have extra cash to give them when I shake their hand. It feels good.

II Corinthians 9:6-7 “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

Proverbs 11:24-25 “There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.” Proverbs 11:24-25

Giving is an act of worship, and I believe the Holy Spirit will guide us according to our abilities. He does not look at the amount we give, but at our willingness.

Thought For Today: Has the Holy Spirit prompted you to give to someone today? You can rest assured that you will be blessed.
