“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” Psalm 27:14
Recently, I read the following quote:
“If God is making you wait, He is preparing you for
Something you aren’t ready for yet.”
Most people do not like waiting, whether it be in traffic, in line at a grocery story, or even waiting for someone to go somewhere with them. Once we make up our mind what we want, we want it now.
There are several stories in the Bible of people who had a dream or a vision from God, showing them something special He wanted them to do, but it did not happen immediately. They had to go through a period of waiting.
One particularly good example is Joseph. As a young man, the Lord showed him in dreams that he had an important part to play in the lives of his family. He probably thought that when he told them about it, they would be happy and would immediately do everything they could to help him fulfill the dreams. However, it did not work that way. He only made them angry with him and eventually caused his brothers to sell him into slavery. We know now that God had allowed him to be in Egypt in order to save his family when the famine came. But Joseph had no idea how his story would end. Still, he did his absolute best wherever he happened to be, and somehow trusted God through the waiting years. The way he spent his waiting time prepared him for the task ahead.
Waiting on God does not mean just sitting back and doing nothing. If God has shown us that He has a ministry or a mission to fulfill, we can trust Him. When the time is right, He will open the door. In the meantime, we can be preparing for whatever may come. A young person who feels the call to serve God in some capacity will begin to study the Word, spend time in prayer, and be faithful in whatever their hands find to do. When God sees that they are ready to fulfill the call, the door will open. His timing is always perfect.
Isaiah 40:31” But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for your promise that if we will wait on you and trust you, you will guide us in the path you desire us to take.
