“Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.” Hebrews 11:11

The story of Sarah in the Bible has been an inspiration and encouragement to all women. She set a fitting example for us all. There is no record that the Lord appeared to her when she married Abraham and gave her any special promise. We do not know when Abraham shared with her the promise that God had given him of becoming the father of many nations, but he must have done so at some point. We do know that she was devoted to her husband, and willingly went along with all the decisions that he made.

As the years passed quickly by and no child came to bless their home, it must have been hard for her to trust God. Can we blame her for taking things into her own hands, and deciding to give her maid, Hagar, to Abraham so he would have a son?

And then one day, three men visited Abraham.

Genesis 18:9-10 “And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.”

Sarah laughed, as this sounded impossible, and the Lord spoke to Abraham in verse 14: “Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”

Sarah not only received spiritual strength as faith arose in her heart again, but she also received physical strength to bear a child even in her old age.

Is there something that the Lord has promised you? Maybe it was a long time ago, but you are still waiting for it to be fulfilled. Do not ever give up, keep believing. Nothing is impossible with God.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Lord Jesus, you are the God of the impossible. There is nothing too hard for you. Help us to stand on the promises you have given us, and patiently wait for your perfect timing to fulfill them.
