“Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.”

Psalm 139:13-16, MSG

He knows everything about us…and still loves us.  He knew everything about us before we were born. He saw all of our sin and all of the times that we would fail Him, and He still came down to redeem our imperfect, flailing souls.

Our society demands perfection, but God just demands honesty and openness.  He can work with our failures, as long as we continually bring them to the foot of the Cross.  The only way we ruin our chances is to stop coming to Him.

King David was awestruck by this concept:

“I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous, your handmade sky-jewelry, moon and stars mounted in their settings. Then I look at my micro-self and wonder, Why do you bother with us? Why take a second look our way?”

Psalm 8:3-4, MSG

David felt small.  It’s okay to feel small- we are! In the enormity of God’s majesty and glory, there’s little room for us and our finite ideas.  There’s only room for His greatness.  Yet at the same time, He continues to reach down into the messes of our lives to rescue us. He cares for us! Jesus beautifully illustrates this point in Luke:

“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

Luke 12:6-7, KJV

There’s no way that we can get lost in this crazy world with a Heavenly Father so attentive! No matter where we are, He never misses a beat! Never loses sight of us.

One of my favorite hymns is “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”.  He’s really all that matters in this life, and when we focus on Him, everything else fades away.  The amazing thing is that we’re all that matters to Him! He hung on that rugged cross for our salvation and redemption.

“Jesus, thank You for your amazing love! I don’t understand it, but I receive it!  I don’t know why You even look my way, Lord, but I thank you for it! Help me to more fully comprehend Your love. Help me to let go of my perfectionism and my pride and be completely honest with You about my failures. Help me to always run to You, knowing how precious I am in Your sight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are!

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!
