“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.

We often quote this scripture, or hear it quoted in the context of trusting the Lord to meet all our physical, financial, and other needs. And it is a comfort to know that when we are lacking anything we can go to God in prayer and trust Him to supply what we need

But remember the Lord knows our real needs much better than we do ourselves.  I believe this Scripture applies to the spiritual needs that we have even more than it applies to our physical ones. There are some things that the Lord knows we need more than anything else.

First, we need His presence in our lives every moment of the day.  We can face going without a lot of things, when we have the presence of the Lord with us.  We know that He is constantly by our side, watching over us, protecting us from harm, and ever looking out for what is best for us.

How do we make sure that we have His presence with us?  It takes some consistent effort on our part, spending time each day reading His Word and lifting our voice both in praise and in prayer to Him.  It is easy to feel His presence when everything is going well, but it is a little harder when we are going through a trial or facing a problem.  But if we practice, staying in His presence on the good days, we will find it easy to feel Him when the bad days come.

“Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

The Psalmist David, knowing that he had sinned, called out to the Lord in Psalm 51:11 “Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.” As He sought forgiveness, he knew that His greatest need was to feel the presence of the Lord.  In Psalm 16:11. He expressed it this way: “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

We will continue tomorrow with another real need the Lord provides.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for all the needs you supply in my life.  My greatest need is to have your presence with me every day and through the night.  Thank you that I can trust in you to meet that need.
