“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.

About two years ago, I began praying that the Lord would show me when it was time to give up my car and quit driving. For the last few months, I have felt strongly that the time had come to do so. The lease on my apartment will renew on May 1, so it was a good time to give up my parking space in the garage. Today, I went through the car wash, put gas in, and went for one last drive.

I have always enjoyed driving and will certainly miss the independence it has given me, but I have peace that I have made the right decision. I have driven many miles in the last few years without a major accident or problem. I thank the Lord for His blessing and protection. Life will be different and there will be challenges. But I am standing on His promise:

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13

The Lord knows what the future holds, and it is such a comfort to know that we can trust Him that we are right in the place He wants us to be at every stage in our lives. We take life one step at a time, and as we listen to His voice, by faith we know that He is on the path before us leading the way.

We all go through changing seasons in our lives. As we look back, we see how the decisions we made in earlier years have brought us to where we are today. Sometimes we wondered what God was doing, but now we understand that the Lord was working all things for our good.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Perhaps some of you are facing changes in your life, that may be causing anxiety and questions. The Lord knows exactly where you are and if you will put your trust completely in Him, He will direct your path.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for being our guide on life’s pathway. We cannot walk this way alone, we need your guidance and direction every step of the way.

  1. I’m 2 years into my 5 year plan, and some things seem clearer to me. My trust levels are going uphill as my strength seems to be sliding downhill. But through it all, as the song says, I am learning to depend upon His word. Thank you for sharing this day with us.

Thank you for sharing this personal season in your life.
I’m 70 and beginning to feel less confident doing different things that I took for granted. Also noticed my memory went from a fast pace marketing job to forgetfulness of things I did automatically every day. I am trying to embrace this season but is not easy.
    Love reading your posts. ♥️

I will be 86 in June, and still able to do most everything. Just not comfortable driving anymore.
