“The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

Today is commonly known as “Boxing Day”. Several theories exist on how Boxing Day got its name. It may come from a tradition in the U.K. in which household employers boxed gifts for their servants. Whatever its origin, today in Canada it is the biggest shopping day of the year. People will be flocking to the stores looking for bargains. It used to be the day when some people returned things that they had received to exchange them for something better or different.

No matter how many gifts were received on Christmas Day, there will be those who are out looking for something else to buy. We hear stories of people fighting over the last item on a bargain shelf. Humans never seem to be satisfied with what they have but are always seeking for something more.

The Baby in the manger was God’s ultimate gift to mankind. He came to bring peace to earth and a way for us to obtain eternal life. When we look around our world today, we do not see much peace. But we can have peace in our heart because we have accepted the great gift of salvation He provided. It is a gift that we have no desire to exchange for anything the world could possibly offer. It is a gift that we value more each day. It is the gift that gives us hope for eternity.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for the ultimate gift, when you came to earth in order to die for us and provide us with salvation. Thank you for the peace and joy that gift has brought us.
