“When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied. “Do not come any closer,” the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.” (Exodus 3:4-6, NLT).

When Moses saw the burning bush, he was intrigued. How could this be happening? As he came closer, God called to him. Moses’ first instinct was to reply, “Here I am!”  It makes me wonder how I would respond to the audible voice of God. I hope I would be quick to tell Him, “Here I am!”

Moses continues his conversation with the Mighty God. The Great I Am needs a leader to deliver the oppressed from their suffering and He tells Moses you’re the one to do it! In Exodus 3:11, Moses protests God’s call, “Who am I to appear before Pharoah? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”  His first question is, “Who am I?”  But God assures him, “I will be with you.”

Exodus 3:13-14 reveals Moses’ second question. “Who are You?”  Moses wants to know God’s name.  In response, God reveals a great truth—“I AM who I AM. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.”   How amazing to know the Eternal God of all generations and history firsthand!

But Moses wasn’t content with knowing who God was or the name of the One who had chosen him. Exodus 4:1, Moses protested again, “What if they won’t believe or listen? What if they say, The Lord never appeared to you?” In reply, God takes something ordinary—Moses’ shepherd’s staff—and performs a miracle.

God can take the ordinary thing you surrender to Him and create something miraculous!

So far, God has answered every question and excuse Moses has offered. But Moses wasn’t finished. In Exodus 4:10-12, Moses pleads with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I have never been and am not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” Maybe for a moment, Moses forgot who he was speaking to. But the Lord reminds him that He created every part and function and will instruct Moses on what to say.

In a final, last-ditch effort, Moses begs, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.” At that point, we might think that God would have had enough with Moses’ excuses. But God’s plan is infalliable, He had called and chosen Moses for this moment. So God provides someone to help, a brother to come alongside Moses to support him in his calling and to be a strength and an encouragement in the areas where he is weak. How often have we received the right word at the right time from a brother or sister who encouraged and strengthened us to continue in our calling?

Do you have a calling from God but you are filled with questions and excuses as to why you cannot fulfill it? Often, we ask ourselves, Who am I? I feel inadequate in following what God is directing me to do. What if those I am trying to reach don’t believe? I am not talented or spiritual enough to fulfill the calling.

My dear sister, when God calls you He will equip you and bring the right people into your life to support you! When Esther hesitated to speak to the king on behalf of her people, Mordecai told her, “For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14.)

Today is your time to step into your calling! You have this assurance from Revelation 14:11 (ESV): “The Lamb will conquer them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with Him are called, and chosen and faithful.”
