“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

          “Great is Thy faithfulness!” “Great is Thy faithfulness!”

           Morning by morning new mercies I see;

           All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—

          “Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord, unto me!

The above words written over one hundred and fifty years ago, still contain a message that resonates within our hearts today. We serve a faithful God, one who has never changed. His mercy and compassion will never fail. He will always keep His promise to supply our every need.

When God led His people out of Egypt to the land that He had promised they would inherit, their every need was supplied. We are told that even in the forty years that they traveled, their clothing and shoes never wore out. When they were hungry, God sent them manna every day, just enough to feed their family one day at a time. When they were thirsty, He supplied water. Many times, they rebelled against Him, yet His mercy was extended to them.

When they left Egypt, He told them to borrow from the Egyptians, clothing, jewelry, and other items. Thus, when He gave Moses the instructions to build the Tabernacle, they had the materials they needed to complete the task.

In the book of Jeremiah, Chapter 52, we read the story of King Jehoiachin and how the King of Babylon released him from prison and provided for him. Look at verse 34: “And for his diet, there was a continual diet given him of the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.”

Just as the Lord provided for the Israelites and King Jehoiachin, we can trust Him to provide whatever we need, one day at a time. When Jesus was teaching His disciples to pray, He told them to ask for their “daily bread.” This can apply to both our material needs and our spiritual.

Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

II Peter 1:3 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.”

We are so blessed. He gave His life for our salvation and took our sins upon Himself so that we might be redeemed. Every day, He extends His love, mercy, and compassion to us. We can come to Him in prayer, knowing that He will meet our every need. Great is His faithfulness.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for who you are, and for your great faithfulness to us. May our hearts be filled with gratitude to you today for all that you bestow upon us.
