Nehemiah 4:14
“After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”
There will always be people who want you to fail. I don’t understand it myself, but some people just hate to see others succeed, and this was the case in the fourth chapter of Nehemiah. They were working tirelessly to complete the wall, and at every turn they had critics in their ear. There will always a select group of people who thrive on the failures of others.
I am so glad that we serve a loving God who is not put off by our mistakes, and who doesn’t rub them in our faces. He chooses rather to pick up shattered pieces and mend what was broken. Our God specializes in the restoration of people deemed unimportant, lost or unfixable.
Perhaps you have a person in your life who is a critic, if so, I point you to the end of the verse. It tells us to not be afraid of these critics, but rather to remember the Lord and fight for our families. I love how it specifically says “homes.” I think we can all agree that there is an intense and intentional attack on our homes and families right now.
We must stand grounded in His word, and established in our faith and confidence in Him – and fight! Pray for your spouse and children, worship through the storm and always remember the God you serve!
Prayer: Lord, I am so thankful that you are Mighty and Strong. I am thankful that You have equipped me with exactly what I need to fight for my family. Guide me today as I do my best to serve you, and to lead them by example.
