“After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”
There will always be people who want you to fail. I will never understand it myself, but some people just hate to see others succeed. This was the case in Nehemiah chapter four. They were working tirelessly to complete the wall, and at every turn they had critics in their ear.
Now, in 2019 I think it’s uncommon to have people actually plot and conspire to kill you for your work for the kingdom – but there will still be those who anxiously await for you to make a mistake.
There is a select group of people who thrive on the failures of others. I am so glad though that we serve a loving God who is not put off by our mistakes, and who doesn’t rub them in our faces. He rather chooses to pick up shattered pieces and mend what was broken.
The end of this verse tells us to not be afraid of these critics, but rather to remember the Lord and fight for our families. I love how it specifically says “homes” because I think we can all agree that there is an intense and intentional attack on our homes and families right now.
We must stand grounded in His word, and established in our faith and confidence in Him – and fight! Pray for your spouse and children, worship through the storm and always remember the God you serve!
Lord, I am so thankful that you are Mighty and Strong. I am thankful that You have equipped me with exactly what I need to fight for my family. Guide me today as I do my best to serve you, and to lead them by example.
