Proverbs 17:19

“Anyone who loves to quarrel loves sin; anyone who trusts in high walls invites disaster.”

Proverbs is such an interesting book of the bible to me. It’s this smorgasbord of universal wisdom all compiled into one book. This scripture goes from quarreling to trusting in high walls all in one scripture! I feel like Solomon could literally never turn his brain off, and his hand couldn’t write as fast as his mind was thinking.

The second half of this scripture stood out to me, “anyone who trusts in high walls invites disaster” High walls in modern day could mean just about anything – finances, relationships, emotions, people.. the list is endless. The struggle is different for everyone though, and what I may struggle with, you may sail right pass – not even giving it a second thought. This doesn’t make any struggle, any less of a struggle though.

If we place our trust in anyone or anything besides God, we are reminded that we are inviting disaster. In bible days, I’m sure this meant war and death. And while in 2018 the consequences may not literally be the same, our choices may lead to unnecessary spiritual warfare or spiritual death. It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day “stuff”, and put our trust in what we can visibly see – but God is our Provider. Everything we have comes from Him. If He is first, everything else will fall into place.

As long as You have God, you have everything you need and will ever need. Trust in Him today.

Prayer: God, I’m sorry if I have placed my trust in anything other than You alone. I get so busy and caught up in the day to day chaos of life, but I know I can rest at the end of each day knowing you are my Provider and I will never lack anything good thing.
