Genesis does not appear first in the Bible by chance. Everything else in the Bible flows out of the book of Genesis. God always has order to everything He does. God does not, nor has He ever, worked by chance. He is always intentional. As we study Genesis, we quickly become aware of the order with which God works. If He orders all of this, He is certainly capable of ordering our lives!
Genesis sets the stage for the rest of the Bible.
It’s the introduction to Israel’s beginnings as a nation. It presents the promises that God made to mankind. Promises that God carries out through the rest of the Bible. God’s ultimate desire is the salvation of people. 2 Peter 3:9 tells us, God is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” If the book of Genesis were summed up in one verse, it would be these words that God said to Abraham:
(Genesis 17:7 ESV)
“And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.”
It is the desire of God to save us.
It is the desire of God to have a relationship with us.
