“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 NLT

Have you ever visited an Art Gallery? The paintings displayed are not just those of amateurs but of skilled artists. There will be a wide variety of pictures to view, and depending on your artistic taste, you will spend most of your time in front of the ones that interest you. You will stand in awe, recognizing the skill, time, and effort that the artist put into them.

Merriam-Webster defines the word masterpiece as “a work done with extraordinary skill, especially a supreme intellectual or artistic achievement.”

Our Creator God is not an amateur. He is a skilled artist who has seen a potential in you and me that we often do not see ourselves. Although we may not realize it, from the time we were born, His skillful hand has guided each of our lives, preparing us for the work that He has planned for us to do. He created us “for good works.

Christ died on the cross, shedding His precious blood to purchase our salvation. When we accept Him as our Saviour and Lord, we become part of His kingdom. He has a plan and a purpose for our lives. The works we do will not give us salvation, but they are the result of our salvation. As we let His Holy Spirit guide us and direct us each day, we will accomplish the work He has for us to do.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

So often we look at our lives and tell ourselves that we are lacking in areas. We may not be pretty, talented, artistic, or gifted. But the Lord does not look at all those things. He looks at our hearts and our motives. He sees the complete picture that He has had in mind before we were even born.

I Samuel 16:7 “for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

He is not finished with us yet.

Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

When you get out of your bed every morning, wash your face, clean your teeth, comb your hair, get dressed, and then look in the mirror. Tell yourself: “Good Morning, (your name). You are God’s masterpiece. He has made you special and given you this day to live for Him. Listen to His voice and follow His leading today.” Then spend time reading His Word and worshipping Him.

Prayer: Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the assurance You have given us of your love, mercy, and grace. Help us to remember why we were created and make us willing vessels for You today.
