“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalm 139:13-14
When I was a child, we used to make paper snowflakes in school. We would specially fold a sheet of paper and then make cuts in the folds so that when we opened it up it looked like a snowflake. Unless we all traced the same pattern, everyone turned out differently; there were no two alike. So it is that every snowflake that falls to the ground is different. Each one floats through clouds with different temperatures and moisture levels. Even though they all consist of the same hydrogen and oxygen level each one has a unique shape and design.
We see this pattern in everything that our great God created. When we look around our world and see the flowers, trees, animals, and everything else that exists, we see a wide variety. Each creation has things in common, yet differences as well. How true this is when we look at people. We are not all made after the same pattern. Each of us is unique.
Recently a friend gave me a beautiful tote bag decorated with the words: “God says you are” and underneath there were seven vases with words and a Scripture verse on them. Today let us look at the first one.
“God says you are unique. Collins Dictionary describes unique as “being the only one of a particular type; single; sole.”
Every baby born has many things in common, such as physical features, mental capabilities, etc. But each one will have his or her special characteristics, talents, and abilities.
It is so amazing to realize that before we were even born, the Lord chose us and placed in our hearts and minds the potential that He planned for us. There is no one just like you, no one just like me. He had a plan and purpose for our lives before we drew our first breath.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
Ephesians 1:4-5 “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,”
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we bow in your presence today, thanking you for your great love. You created each of us unique and special. Help us to fulfill the plan and purpose that you have for us.
