“For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 1:23-25

Do you have a full-length mirror in your home?  I heard someone say recently that the last thing a lady should do before she leaves her home is to look in the full-length mirror.  There are so many things that we need to check to make sure that we are ready to be seen in public.  Do we have on shoes that match?  Is our hair neatly combed?  What about our teeth, is there any thing that will reveal the last meal we ate?  Is there a spot on our clothing? As ladies who love the Lord and want other people to see Christ in us, we also check to make sure that our clothes are modest and decent.

James said that the Word of God was like a mirror.  As we read it, the Holy Spirit reveals to us what is in our hearts.  But if we do not act upon what He is showing us, we are like a person who looks in a mirror, sees something that should be corrected, but walks away and forgets all about it.

When the Lord reveals something in His Word that needs some action on our part, it is important that we talk to the Lord about it.  If it is an attitude that needs changing, we need to work on it.  If He reveals something in our life that is not pleasing to the Lord, we need to repent and change what we are doing.  James tells us that when we do this, we will be blessed by the Lord.

It seems to me that we should be looking into two mirrors every day.  The one in the bedroom or hallway reveals what we look like on the outside.  The Word of God reveals what is in our hearts, and that is where the Lord is looking.  Sometimes what we discover in that, will also change the way we look in the natural mirror.

Prayer:  Jesus, as I read and study your Word today, reveal to me the things I need to change, and help me to be obedient to you, because I want to be a doer of the word as well as a hearer.
