“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers:” I Peter 3:12

As I was thinking about the way the Holy Spirit guides us and directs us, I remembered an incident that happened many years ago. One of our teachers in Bible College was Sis. Marguerite Stairs. She was a great teacher, knew her Bible well, and was loved and appreciated by us all. Weekend trips were always looked forward to. One or more of the teachers would go with us, dropping two students off at each church in a particular area, so that we could gain some practical experience in ministering.

On this day, I remember as we came out of the school and were preparing to get into the Volkswagen bus, Sis. Stairs stopped on the steps and said, “I have changed my mind. I feel a check in the Spirit and will not be going with you today.” We never knew the reason for this, but I am firmly convinced that the Lord knew something none of us knew, and there was some reason He did not want her to go.

I am thankful that the Lord is watching over me every moment of the day and night. He not only sees what is happening now, but He knows what will transpire in the future. When we wake up in the morning and ask Him to give us direction and guidance for the day, can trust Him to direct every step we take. There have been times when I have been all ready to go somewhere and suddenly felt to change my mind and stay in. Would something bad have happened if I had gone ahead with my plans? That is something I will never know. But I always want to be attuned to the voice of the Lord, knowing that He knows best.

Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

One of the most amazing functions of the Holy Spirit is His willingness to lead us, prompt our actions, inspire our purposes, and mold our characters. As we yield fully to Him, we deepen our awareness of His presence in every aspect of our lives.

Have you taken time today to listen to that still-small voice of the Holy Spirit?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we desire to walk in your will, yielding our all to you, and letting your Spirit direct our every step.
