“The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living, it is our handle on what we can’t see.  The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.”  (Hebrews 11:1 in The Message)

Our faith will be tested.  As the Message states, “It is our handle on what we can’t see.”

As we read on through Hebrews 11, what stood out to me was everyone in the chapter had their faith tested in different ways.

Abel, by faith, offered a better sacrifice to God than Cain.

By an act of faith, Enoch skipped death completely.

By faith, Noah built the ark in the middle of dry land.

Abraham said yes to God’s call to move to an unknown place that became his home.

Faith caused barren Sarah to become pregnant because the one who made a promise fulfilled His Word.

On and on are examples of people being tested.  Hebrews 11:40 tells us we need to keep the faith and live it out in our lives so that their lives of faith can be complete.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for those who have kept the faith.  I too want to live by faith.  My life will help complete the puzzle of faith for those who have gone on before me.  Amen!
