“Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour…and, behold all was vanity…and there was not profit under the sun.”  (Ecclesiastes 2:11 KJV)

Reading the book of Ecclesiastes helps me understand that the things we obtain in life don’t bring true happiness.

In chapter 2, Solomon made a list of things that he had obtained.  He listed:  houses, vineyards, gardens, pool, trees, servants, peculiar treasures (rare treasures), singers and musical instruments.  He concluded that all of these were a poor substitute for wisdom which is better than fine gold.

King Solomon showed us that material wealth does not satisfy.  He had worked hard and had a long list of accomplishments to show for it yet, satisfaction was missing.

Sometimes we are guilty of pursuing a bigger home, more stuff; and Solomon is warning us of the end result.  It won’t satisfy us!

Prayer:  Your Word is invaluable to me.  It helps me focus on what is really important in life.  Only You can satisfy my soul.  I can’t live a satisfying life without You.  Amen!
