“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

The name of Jesus demands respect and reverence. It should not be used lightly. The world today often uses it in a profane way. We probably have all met someone who uses it as a filler for almost everything they say, and we shudder as we listen to them

For those of us who love and serve Him, the name Jesus means so much more to us. It’s the name we whisper when we are afraid. It is the name we call on when we or someone we love is facing sickness. It is the name we use as we say a blessing over the food we eat. It is the name we lift in worship and adoration as we gather together to learn more of Him. We know that He is always there to hear us when we call out to Him.

The Scripture tells us that there will come a day when every knee will bow at His name and confess that He is Lord of all. For those of us who have loved and served Him, it will be a time of inexpressible and glorious joy. For those who have blasphemed His name and used it lightly, it will be a time of great fear and distress, They will fall down in terror as they realize the One they have rejected has now become their judge and they will be punished for their behaviour.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, that we know you as our Saviour and Lord. Help us to ever honour and respect your Name, and to lift you up before the world.
