Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. (Proverbs 28:13, NIV)
Forgiving others becomes second nature to most of us. We know that people make mistakes and sometimes it’s easier to forgive and move on. Forgiving ourselves can be a different story. Living with guilt causes us to carry a burden that God did not intend for us. We do not have the power to overcome guilt on our own. Only God can help us to truly forgive ourselves of whatever shame we may be holding on to.
Prayer: Lord, help us to forgive ourselves of both mistakes that we have made in the past and also the ones that we will make in the future. Free us from the guilt that can so quickly become a stumbling block in our relationship with others. In Jesus name, Amen.
