“Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.” John 13:7 Have you ever wished that you could see into the future, even just a little bit? It would be nice to be able to check up on things and have some reassurance that everything really will be okay. I don’t read fiction novels very often, but when I do I usually skip to the last chapter just to make sure everything worked out fine before continuing on with my reading. If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love. Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Later, Paul explained God “does…

Listen, Israel: Today you are about to cross the Jordan so you can dispossess the nations there, people greater and stronger than you who live in large cities with extremely high fortifications. They include the Anakites, a numerous and tall people whom you know about and of whom it is said, “Who is able to resist the Anakites?” Understand today that the LORD your God who goes before you is a devouring fire; he will defeat and subdue them before you. You will dispossess and destroy them quickly just as he has told you. (Deuteronomy 9:1-3, NET) Are you like…

“For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew 12:50, NKJV) This week we’ve looked at the life stories of several women in the Bible. Most were familiar to us, although not all were what we might call a “major character” of the Bible. We’ve talked about Eunice and Lois, Shiphrah and Puah, Naomi, the women in Jesus’ genealogy, Priscilla, and Abigail. Hopefully, their stories have blessed us and encouraged us. One source says that ninety-three women are mentioned in the Old and New Testaments, but only forty-nine are named. I…
