Gravity is not influenced by popular opinion. It just exists. Our preference has no effect on its properties. Many other principles in life hold true whether we like them or not. If we plant watermelon seeds we will not harvest corn or tomatoes. How we live our lives today determines to a great extent the quality of life we experience tomorrow. The Bible declares, “whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” (Galatians 6:7). Often that statement has ominous connotations, but the opposite is true too. If we sow love, peace, kindness, and gentleness into those around us, we will receive a beautiful crop in return.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help is to be aware of what we are planting each day. Give us the grace and strength we need to consistently sow the right things.

Faith is the medium of exchange in God’s economy just as money is the medium of exchange in our society. What exactly is faith?

Faith is a belief, conviction, trust, confidence, certainty, hope, and dependency. The Bible says that it is impossible for us to please God without “faith” (Hebrews 11:6).

Faith is so simple. We all have it. We use our faith every day. We have faith that our car will start. We believe that we will be paid if go to work and do a good job. We trust that our roof will keep us dry when storm clouds gather.

Having faith in God and His Word is to place our confidence, hope, and trust in Him that He will do what He said.

Prayer: Lord, help us to rest in Your Word. When you say You will do something, we know that You will do it.

“What’s new?” We’ve heard the question thousands of times. Actually the question was asked centuries ago. “Is there anything new under the sun?” The answer was given in the Bible. “All is vanity and vexation of spirit” (Eccl. 1:14).

So much of life doesn’t matter. Much of what happens today will not be remembered one week, one month, or one year from now. How do we know what is really important? Longing to live a life of value resides in all of us.

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12). There is a solution to the confusion. “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6).

Prayer: Dear Lord, You search our hearts and understand our thoughts. When we seek You, You are always there (1 Chronicles 28:9).

Haunted eyes, a heavy heart, and feet that dread the next step. Life has a way of dragging us down.

We do not have to live very long before we discover that we do not have all the answers. Life is bigger than we are, and we need help!

Prayer is the key!

“Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the ends of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy” (Psalm 61:1-3).

Prayer: When I talk to You, Lord, You lift my load and chase the storm clouds away. You bring peace to my troubled mind and calm my fears. You lift me above my circumstances so that I can walk in peace and joy again.

“The center of the word “life” is if? If I get that promotion… If my husband doesn’t get sick… If my children behave… If I had a bigger house… If it doesn’t rain tomorrow…

Life is full of uncertainties. Instead of enjoying life, we often tread water, wallowing in worries about the future. We delay enjoying our spouses, children, homes, and friends until the perfect time that may never come.

Why take a vacation, if it’s not the perfect vacation? My furniture is worn, I can’t possibly entertain! I’m overweight, no one wants to be my friend.

Life doesn’t come with guarantees. Until we can be happy in the middle of the “if’s,” we will never really experience life.

Prayer: Dear Lord, You’ve told us to be content with what we have (Hebrews 13:5). Thank you for each blessing. We want to really “live” our lives. With Your help, we can.

More! The best! To possess it first! It seems as soon as we obtain one thing there is another that we must have too. Dresses and shoes sit in our closets, often with price tags still attached, while we shop for more.

“The person with the most toys wins!” Whether those words would ever come out of our mouths or not, that is exactly how we live.

We worry and fret that our best will never be good enough and that our friends and neighbors will upstage us. What a waste of time.

There is one way to ensure that we always have all that we need.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:34).

Prayer: Dear God, help us to remember that as long as You’re all we want, we will have all that we need.

Where can we go and be safe? I’ve wondered that at times. People fail us. Circumstances come avalanching through our lives, leaving us wounded, beaten and broken.

It seems that there is no one that we can count on all the time and in every situation. There is a “Friend” that will never leave us. There is One that can be trusted with our darkest secrets and greatest needs.

It is exhausting to constantly defend and protect ourselves and what we have. “Trust in the Lord,” the Psalmist said (Psalm 37:4). When we trust God, we no longer have to struggle and strain to get what we need.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we do trust You. Give us courage to trust You even more. Being vulnerable even before You is not easy. You know that. Thank You for loving us. Thank You for providing for our every need.

Have you ever tried finding your way in dark, unfamiliar surroundings without a light? When the power goes out in your home unexpectedly, you reach for a flashlight and hope that the batteries are still good.

Stumbling around in the darkness is not a pleasant experience. Even in familiar settings, it is easy to lose our sense of direction. When we find ourselves enshrouded in darkness, uneasiness rises within us and fear clutches our throats.

As we walk through life, we can lose our way too. Darkness can descend and which way to go is no longer clear.

Prayer: Dear God, You told us that Your Word is our light. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). Thank You for giving us direction, hope, and reassurance.

“Who doesn’t enjoy a good love story? As little girls, we enjoyed reading Cinderella, Snow White, and Little Women. Stories of escape, glamour, and beauty enchant females of all ages. We all dream of being loved and desired by that special someone.

Did you know that you are a part of the greatest love story ever told? Whether you are young or old, rich or poor, single or married – it does not matter. You are truly and deeply loved. There is Someone who desires you more than you can comprehend.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotton Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).”

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for giving the ultimate gift. You died so that we would not ever have to live without You.
