“And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, and said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves” (Matthew 21:13 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

Nothing angers God more than people who disrespect the House of Worship. To walk into the presence of God is an awesome thing. God still doesn’t put up with junk in His House today. It should be a place set apart and called the House of prayer.

Prayer: Help me never to enter Your House haphazardly. What a wonderful place to experience Your presence at the mention of Your Holy Name!

“But when the people of the land shall come before the Lord in the solemn feasts, he that entereth in by the way of the north gate to worship shall go out by the way of the south gate; and he that entereth by the way of the south gates shall go forth by the way of the north gate: he shall not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in, but shall go forth over against it” (Ezekiel 46:9 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). After bringing a dead congregation to life, Ezekiel was instructed by God to set up Sanctuary rules. This scripture intrigued me last year and I underlined it. Now I’m returning to peruse what is being said. It’s important for us in the 21st century not to leave the House of God the way we came in. You may have only one door for an entrance and exit but you can still leave another way. Sorrow may have caused you to come in grieving but you can leave with joy from being in the presence of God. Don’t leave the way you came in!

Prayer: In Your presence there is always fullness of joy! Thank You, Lord, for lifting my heavy load in Your House. As the song by Bill and Gloria Gaither declares, “Because You live I can face tomorrow.”

“Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore” (Ezekiel 37:26 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). Throughout Scripture people desired to house God’s presence inside walls made with hands. But, the Bible tells us that God’s presence is not restricted to wood, cement and brick, He is with us always. Wherever the Spirit of God is, there is a sanctuary for the sick, the hurting and the downtrodden.

Prayer: Mighty God, You are a sanctuary for us in the storms as well as the celebrations of life. The permanent church building is a wonderful place of rest and worship, but today I pray that You will create in my heart a sanctuary for Your use. Amen.
