“And as we have borne the image of the earthly, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly” I Corinthians 15:49. Over the course of my life, I’ve heard on numerous occasions that I look like my Father. And as much as that pleases me, I am much more interested in whether or not I resemble my Heavenly Father. As unbelievable as that sounds, the Bible says that as we mature in the Christian life and continue to allow God to conform us to His image, we are becoming more like Him every day!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I dare to believe that one day I will look like You. I surrender now to the changes You bring to my heart each day in order to make me a reflection of You. One day I hope to hear You boast, “My child, You look like me!” Amen.

“O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself” (Psalm 45:1 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

There are few more difficult disciplines for a human being than learning to abandon our desire to avenge injustice committed against us or those around us. The senseless violence, hurtful comments, or emotional injuries that I or others have suffered is not mine to rectify. The Bible declares that God is the avenger and He is well prepared to defend His children. God will restore what has been lost either in this life or the one to come. Our responsibility is to trust God’s timing, and to bless rather than curse those who despitefully use us.

Prayer: Lord, don’t allow hatred to gain a foothold in my life. I can and will live in victory! Amen.

“But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons” (Galatians 4:4-5 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). The law is the law and it cannot be changed, but God’s grace is God’s grace and it is sufficient to enable me to fulfill His law. The law tells me what I should do, but God’s redeeming grace empowers me to keep it.

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for buying my freedom from the slavery of sin, forgiving me, adopting me as one of your own and filling me with Your Spirit so I can choose to do what is right! Amen.

“For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel, The God of the whole earth shall he be called” (Isaiah 54:5 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). We will never be truly forsaken, alone or widowed because God is the husband of our soul. Too often we are deeply disappointed with our relationships with others because we expect more from them than they are capable of providing. It’s important to remember that our earthly relationships are but a shadow of what it means to have the affection, protection, companionship, friendship, partnership and leadership of our Maker.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Everything I need from relationships with those closest to me, I find in You. You are the first and real love of my life!

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:” (Revelation 1:1 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). Human beings are naturally curious about the future. Because of our inability to predict coming events, we tend to look ahead with some fear and trepidation. But the child of God need not fear tomorrow, or dread the last days because God has revealed the mystery of what is to come in the Bible. Future events are not going to happen by chance but are well planned, and in God’s control.

Prayer: Sovereign God, I don’t have to understand everything that is going to take place, but I must love You with all of my heart, and stay ready for Your return. I am comforted by the fact that the One who holds tomorrow also holds my hand. Amen.

The LORD is your protector, and he won’t go to sleep or let you stumble. The protector of Israel doesn’t doze or ever get drowsy” (Psalm 121:3-4 in the Contemporary English Version of the Holy Bible). There is so much injustice in our world today. But, God is aware of every violent crime. He knows about the illness that has taken a loved one away. He knows all about pain and suffering. He sees it all. God has not abdicated His throne and He has not abandoned His plan to one day set all things right.

Prayer: Lord, You know the difficult situations I face. You see; You hear; and I have this assurance that nothing escapes Your attention. Thank You for watching over me! Amen.

“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” (1 Peter 1:7). Who wants to go through trials? It hurts when the fire…

“They went to him and said, Teacher, we know that you are honest. You treat everyone with the same respect, no matter who they are. And you teach the truth about what God wants people to do…” (Mark 12:14 in the Contemporary English Version of the Holy Bible). It is said that integrity is when you spend as much time on the backyard as you do on the front. Jesus Christ taught by example that we too must live each day speaking the truth and acting with integrity.

Prayer: Lord, Your words are true and You keep all of Your promises. I can rely on Your Word – on Your integrity. Help me to fulfill my obligations and responsibilities with integrity. And, may I always speak the truth in love. Amen.
