Miracles – Page 3 – More To Life

Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he performs for people! (Psalm 66:5, Holy Bible, New Living Translation).

Awesome! This overused word is interwoven into conversations to describe anything above average. It’s linked to fashion, talents, gourmet foods, websites, gadgets, and travels. The King James Version translates awesome as “terrible.” Imagine this scene. We’re looking over the splendid Grand Canyon. I wave my arms and shout out “Terrible!” You wouldn’t understand my comment. If I said “awesome” you would know I’m impressed with God’s creation. That’s what the psalmist meant—full of awe, awesome—when he recognized God’s magnificent miracles. Awesome! That word belongs to God.

Impossible Prayers

“And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:36-37 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

The angel, Gabriel, used the miraculous pregnancy of Mary’s cousin, Elisabeth, to illustrate to her that God could indeed do anything! I often pray for the impossible to happen in my own life and the lives of family and friends. I believe God has answered every prayer I’ve prayed. Sometimes the answer is “No”, sometimes it’s “Not now” and at other times God says, “Yes!”

Prayer: Mighty God, When I believe for the impossible today, I know that You are fully capable of making it a reality. If the time is right, and the answer is in Your will for my life, it will be accomplished! Amen.

The Flower of Peace and a Promise

Fifteen years ago I found out it was likely I would never have children due to chemically-induced menopause after fifteen months of chemotherapy at age seventeen. I remember a time not long after that when I felt like God was telling me to trust Him. This new challenge would later give Him yet another opportunity for a miracle.

In July 2008, I went to the ER in severe pain and discovered I was pregnant! But the pregnancy was ectopic (tubal). My promise had been given and taken away in the same instant.

An Open Heart

“And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul” (Acts 16:14 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). Are you having difficulty believing God for a miracle or perhaps you are struggling with a belief in God at all? I challenge you to sincerely ask God to give you a trusting heart. I have full confidence that, like Lydia, the Master will create the conditions in your heart that will allow you to receive and accept the Word of God.

Prayer: Lord, please open my heart as you did for Lydia in the book of Acts. I want to grasp all that you have planned for me today. Open my understanding of Your Word and enable me to live an abundant life.

Bring Back the Awe

“When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe…” (Matthew 9:8 in the New International Version of the Holy Bible). This Scripture is refering to the miracle that Jesus performed for a paralyzed man who stood up, picked up his mat and started walking home. No one in the small town of Capernaum in northern Galilee had ever witnessed anything like this before! And furthermore, Jesus not only healed the man He also told him he was forgiven. Can you imagine seeing this happen with your own eyes? The crowd that day were awed by the power of God on display before them – healing and forgiveness all at one time! We are overwhelmed today by awe inspiring advances in science and technology. We’ve become so accustomed to phenominal inventions and medical breakthoughs that we tend to lose our sense of wonder. We must be careful not to lose our sense of awe when it comes to God. Does His power and majesty still take your breath away?
