When a person is endangered from an external source, law enforcement officers may place them in protective custody for safety reasons. I like to think this is what Jesus had in mind when He offered a prayer for my safety in a world where evil persists. I imagine Him placing an invisible shield around me when I am in danger.

I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one,” (John 17:15 from the Holy Bible, New King James).

Prayer : Thank You Lord for a shield that surrounds me. I am safe in Your protective care. Amen.

Where can we go and be safe? I’ve wondered that at times. People fail us. Circumstances come avalanching through our lives, leaving us wounded, beaten and broken.

It seems that there is no one that we can count on all the time and in every situation. There is a “Friend” that will never leave us. There is One that can be trusted with our darkest secrets and greatest needs.

It is exhausting to constantly defend and protect ourselves and what we have. “Trust in the Lord,” the Psalmist said (Psalm 37:4). When we trust God, we no longer have to struggle and strain to get what we need.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we do trust You. Give us courage to trust You even more. Being vulnerable even before You is not easy. You know that. Thank You for loving us. Thank You for providing for our every need.

“From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I”
(Psalm 61:2 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). When my world is in chaos and I’m weary with the constant day-to-day grind, I have a place I can hide until my heart is strong enough to continue on.

Prayer: Lord, you are my shelter, the stability that I so desperately need in my life. The strength that You offer me today is rock-solid.

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

I’m amazed by the relationship that God desires to have with us! I traded slavery to the things of the world for a place in God’s family. I’m no longer a slave, but an heir – a daughter of the King! I have no cause to fear for His arms are outstretched inviting me to stop for a moment to consider how valuable I really am to Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You want only the very best for Your children. Your Word has reassured me today that I can rest secure in You. Amen!
