Home Construction“They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the LORD supported me” (Psalm 18:18 in the New Living Translation of the Holy Bible).

The strength of a building lies in its framework and foundation. The shell of wood, steel and concrete ensures the integrity and durability of the structure. In the same way, if Jesus Christ is the sure foundation and framework around which we have built our lives, when life’s storms and calamities threaten to overwhelm us, He is our strong support!

Prayer: In my moments of fear; through every pain, every tear; You have been my tower of refuge and strength. I lean on You, Lord!

worship“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.)

Waiting for someone or something is not one of my virtues. In fact it really does grate on my nerves. According to this scripture, waiting on the Lord will renew your strength. After waiting our energy will be renewed so we can run and not become weary and walk and not faint.

There have been times when I felt totally depleted and found myself at His feet. After waiting on the Lord, I felt invigorated. It was worth the wait!

Prayer: Lord, today I fall at Your feet needing strength to go on. Thank You for Your Word that gives me clear direction on how to increase my physical and spiritual stamina. In Jesus Name, Amen.

wall“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” (Proverbs 18:10 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.)

There is nothing like His name. He is not just a tower, but He is a strong tower. The word strong is an adjective describing the tower. It’s not one in need of repair; it stands strong against the winds of adversity.

When I call on His name I feel complete safety. He is a refuge and my security. I have no need to fear whatever comes my way. His name brings peace to any situation.

Prayer: When I whisper Your name I feel automatic strength and peace. As the songwriter so apply wrote, “Jesus is the sweetest name I know. And He’s just the same as His lovely name. That’s the reason why I love Him so. For Jesus is the sweetest name I know.”

Waiting

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

Someone said that impatience is “waiting in a hurry.” I am prone to do a lot of waiting in a hurry. My stress level rises as each delay and obstacle presents itself. Fretful and tense, I struggle through the day. What a waste! Although it may not be possible to relax amid our stress and chaos, we can rest in God. He has everything under control. What peace can be found when we relinquish our impatience into His Hands.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to remember that nothing is ever out of control when You are in control. We wait upon You today. You are our strength. You are our peace.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go,” (Joshua 1:9, Holy Bible, New King James).

It’s been said that everyone has a reservoir of hidden courage that surfaces when needed. I’ve heard of ordinary people who performed heroic feats in emergencies. I’ve wondered what pushed them to abandon their fear to help others. Perhaps it begins with recognition that God is their source of courage, for He is with them.
Prayer: Lord, give me the strength to be courageous because You are with me everywhere I go. Amen.

Payphone or cell phone? MP3 or antique gramophone? Computer screen or chalkboard? No contest. We are a technology generation. It’s great to use, but it fosters impatience. If my internet connection doesn’t open, I can’t post this devotional. Email or text messages beg for my immediate reply. Do I treat prayer the same way? I pray, send a prayer heavenward, and anticipate an instant message reply. Frustration follows when I don’t hear from God. Perhaps he answered with silence, and I missed the message to wait. His delayed response brings patience. Patience strengthens me while I wait.

Prayer : Lord, I have an abundance of , but I’m short on patience. Strengthen me while I wait. Amen.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 in the King James Version of the Bible)

God may not rescue us immediately from our trial, but we must understand that He has a greater purpose in mind. We can rest secure in the peace that He gives us right here; right now in the middle of our storm. Let’s determine in our heart to always run to Him in times of distress, in times of difficulty and in times of despair.

Prayer: You are the strength of my life. I bless you, O Lord, for being my refuge.

I watch the fuel gage on my car. As it descends toward the big “E,” I begin looking for a gas station. I am aware that if I allow my fuel to run out that my means of transportation will come to a halt.

Occasionally, I allow my car to “run on fumes,” but not for long. I have found that my car is not the only “fuel gage” that I need to monitor. I have one too. When my energy and strength begin to plummet towards that empty mark, I need to refuel. Running on fumes emotionally is unwise.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I need daily doses of Your presence. Without You continually refilling me with Your strength, I cannot make it. You lift me. You help me. You sustain me (Psalm 28:7-9).
