“Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.” Isaiah 12:3

Are you thirsty yet? Have these stories about encounters at the well, put a desire in your heart to draw closer to the Lord and to satisfy your soul with all that He has to offer. Consider the following scriptures:

  1. For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring” Isaiah 44:3
  2. “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.” Isaiah 55:1
  3. “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” John 7:37-38

God provided a well for Hagar to meet the needs of her and her son when she was desperate. He led Abraham’s servant to a well to find a bride for Isaac. Jacob met his future wife at a well, and in waiting for her, he learned to be patient. God directed Moses to a well, where he found a job to fill his time, while he waited for God’s perfect timing. He also found a wife there.

From David’s love for the well of Bethlehem, we learned the value of respect and submission. Also, at Jacob’s well, where Jesus met the Samaritan woman, we were shown that God is no respecter of persons, that He loves us all the same. He gave His life for all on the cross.

The living water still flows today, free to all who are willing to receive it. When we realize our need of Him, and seek His forgiveness for sin, He hears our cry. We obey His Word by being baptized in His Name, and He fills us with His Holy Spirit. Jesus promised we would never thirst again. And He always keeps His promises.

Prayer: Lord I pray that everyone reading this will find their well today, and drink of that living water that you abundantly supply.

As a teacher, it would be a great study for a Women’s group or an adult study group.
    Thank you so much.
    God continue to bless you.
