“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

We all like to receive invitations.  In a normal year, we would probably have received at least one wedding invitation for this summer. It is a special honour when someone invites us to share their special day with them. We are happy to reply that we will attend.  We look through our wardrobe and decide what we will wear, or maybe we will have to buy a new outfit.  We carefully consider what we will give the happy couple as a gift.  We look forward to being part of the celebration.

The greatest invitation that we have ever received is the one that Jesus has given to whosoever will. There are no restrictions.  It is offered freely to anyone who will listen and answer the call. Rich or poor, we don’t have to worry about what we can offer in return. We don’t have to consider what we are wearing. He says just come as you are.  No matter what our life has been like, no matter how deep we have been in sin, He just says, “Come.”

He shed His precious blood on Calvary to pay for the sins of all mankind, and that includes you and me.  We could never live good enough lives to make us holy in God’s sight.  We have only to accept His invitation and let His blood cleanse us from all sin and righteousness. As we seek His face, He breaks the chains that have had us bound and sets us free. Oh, the joy that fills our soul as we realize what this means.  We are now His child and everything that He has is available to us.

Hebrews 4:16 tells us that we can now come boldly to the throne of grace and ask the Lord for whatever we need.  Accepting His invitation gave us that privilege. No good thing will He withhold from His sons and daughters.  He does ask that we separate ourselves from the things of this world.  Because we love Him so much, that is easy to do. Things that we once loved no longer have any attraction for us because we have found something far greater.

One of these days we will receive the invitation to leave this world.  The trumpet will sound, and the Lord will appear to take His children home to be with Him for eternity.

Today is the day of salvation.  If you have never accepted His invitation, He is just waiting for you to surrender your life to Him.  Don’t put it off until it is too late.

Prayer:  Thank you Lord Jesus for your invitation, and for the price you paid for our salvation.  We worship you and praise you today.
